Damn Lightbulb

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

One of my headlight bulbs blew the other day. Its not wise (or legal) to drive with broken bulbs, so I took myself off to Halfords to buy a new bulb. They’ve got this flipchart thing, where you can find the exact bulb you need, just by looking for your car model. It showed two bulbs, so having looked at the two on offer, I bought what I presumed to be the correct bulb. I got home, took out the old one, and realised it was totally wrong. So the next day, back to Halfords I went, receipt in hand and exchanged my bulb for the other one. I got home – and again, it was the wrong one!

I was getting pretty annoyed by this point, so I decided to take out the old bulb, and took it down to Halfords with me. It looks very much like my car has different bulbs in some cases. I told the guy in Halfords about it, and he looked suitably non-plussed about it. During my lunch break today I tried to fit the new bulb. It took me about 2 minutes to extract the old one, 2 minutes to fit the new one, and about 30 minutes to get the back cover of the lighting mounting back on. Its just a plastic cap, and it would NOT go in, for love nor money. I don’t intend doing that again in a rush.

Still, I now know that I need an H7 bulb in future.

New Toy!

Monday, July 4th, 2005

I like buying new toys. Especially when those new toys are new guitars. Today I took myself to a little shop called Paradiddles. I got myself a nice Aria TA-40 archtop ES-355-alike. Its got a nice jazzy tone to it, but it can also make a nice noise when distorted a bit. Its really nice to play though. The setup is nice as is – low enough to be quite effortless for the higher frets, plus barres are pretty simple. Its not too low though. I’ve not had any fret buzz or noise yet. Glad I got it!

Lets get married!

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

Yesterday I went to see my friends Chris and Julie get married. I was at the main ceremony, and the after party, and it was a very good day. A long day, but a good day! Barring the sudden failure of the disco equipment, everybody still had fun.

It was the first wedding I’d ever been to. I think I may have gone to one years ago, but I’m not sure about that – I was pretty young, so I don’t really remember. But it was a great day anyway, and they both looked excited and incredibly nervous, in equal parts, but they both seemed to enjoy it.

Congratulations guys!

Thats All, Thats All

I finally got my copy of The Vanity Project this morning. The Vanity Project is Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies pet project. I’m listening to it now, and I like what I hear! There’s some solid song writing from Stephen Duffy and Steven Page on this album, and some equally solid playing. Considering it was all recorded at home and in Page’s home studio, it still sounds very professional and as if it had been recorded in a studio anyway.

I like this album!
