Today I went to Collectormania. I don’t consider myself much into Sci-Fi, or comic books or other such collectable things, but it was a nice option for a day out. A few of us went along and spent a few hours wandering about looking at all the wierd and wonderful collectable things. Its amazing how much there is, and I was sort of half-looking for some Futurama stuff, but didn’t find much.
Collectormania is of two halves though. There’s the stuff you can buy, and then there’s the celebrities. Most are from Sci-Fi, but a few others are from general TV. You could pay to meet them, but at £10+, it’s only worth doing if you really want to meet them. This year saw William Shatner and Adam West taking part, among others. If you stood in the right place, you could see most of them from behind the barriers. We stood around for a while waiting for Shatner to make an appearance as he’d been taken into a nearby Creche (!) for a break. He eventually appeared and what shepherded past us to carry on signing and meeting people.
Personally, I find these sort of events a little odd – kind of like a petting zoo, but for celebrities. Still, if they didn’t want to do it, I’m sure they could just decline.
Kind of strange seeing stormtroopers walking around though. Oh well!
