I went to see Barenaked Ladies live in London last night, at the Hammersmith Apollo. A damn good show! Boothby Graffoe was supporting again, and he did his usual mix of silly songs and jokes, but with some clever stuff on a MIDI guitar.
We were seated, down the front of the circle, and we had a pretty good view. OK, so we were further back than if we had been standing, but it was a full view of the entire stage, nobody in the way – it was fantastic! Some good songs played, including Maybe You’re Right (one of my favourites), and a thoroughly enjoyable show. Some good banter from the band too, which is always good. On some of the UK tours they seem tired or just not particularly chatty, but this time the band was on fine form.
It was easy to get there, easy to get back, so a nice, fun evening!
I found this useful Firefox addon today through a site on Digg. Basically, all it does is make your tabs in Firefox turn different colours. BUT, it’s based on the domain name. So every time I go to the BBC News site, it turns up a light green; Digital Spy is a dark blue (appropriate given their colour scheme) and so on.
There’s plenty of people dismissing it as not all that good, based on the fact that you can’t customise the colours – you can adjust their intensity, but otherwise that’s it. Well, that’s fine with me personally. It’s useful to just have them pop up randomly coloured like that. It saves a lot of thought with having to set up the colours in the first place, and then it just takes care of itself.
I’ve been using it all afternoon, and I must say, I’m quite taken with it. It’s a very tiny, elegant piece of code, and it works incredibly well.
Today, I saw the Chuckle Brothers live. Now, don’t laugh.
It was actually a very entertaining show. OK, so it’s aimed at kids mainly, but the show still contains a ton of jokes that anybody could find funny, and the guys themselves are so light-hearted, and obviously having fun. The show was full of witty, clever jokes, but balanced out with plenty of slapstick. There were a few foulups – things not happening when they should, and at one part, the set fell down, but they just laughed it off and carried on like nothing had happened.
All in all, a damn enjoyable show!
