About Me
Welcome to the ‘about me’ bit of the site. Most of the site is ‘about me’ in some way, so I suppose this is a little bit redundant. Still, I’ll write some blurb anyway.
I currently work in IT for a local university, doing an assortment of weird and wonderful things. It’s good, varied work, and very enjoyable. Computers used to be my hobby, but since making it my day job I’m less inclined to want to fiddle with them much or do anything ‘clever’ at the end of the day.
As a result, I have various other hobbies. I’m a big fan of music, both listening to it, and playing it. I’m a self-taught guitarist. I’m no Eric Clapton or David Gilmour, but if I’m in the right mood I think I can bang out a fairly recognisable tune. People have told me I can sing fairly well too. Click here, and decide for yourself.
Photography has started to interest me a lot more lately. I’ve migrated from fairly standard point-and-shoot cameras to an Olympus E500 digital SLR. It’s a really nice camera, and I think it’s enabled me to get some more adventurous shots. I’m definitely an amateur though. For every good photo I’ve put on Flickr, there’s about 20 bad shots! I mostly shoot things around us, rather than people. Things are easier to shoot. My photos are on the site here.
So what else do I do? Well, there’s the obvious stuff – films and TV. I like comedies, and stuff with compelling story lines. I tend to watch a lot off factual stuff on Discovery/National Geographic/History Channel these days. Sky+ comes in handy for those things! I also read, but novels really don’t do much for me. I like reading about real things, be it historical or otherwise. It’s always good to learn where we come from, so we can avoid the mistakes, and learn what we should do instead.
So there you go. That’s a brief overview of me.
