Be My Yoko Ono (1991) pp-pro-cd-001 (Canada) 2:47 Page Publications Notes: Promo only single issued by Page Publications. Has black and white front cover, no back cover. This is the same take that ended up on "Gordon", except it was remixed and different backing vocals were added to the last chorus. Disc incorrectly lists time at 2:52.
The liner notes have the following information: So, you finally have a cd of “Acoustic Hip-Hop” with Barenaked Ladies’ “Be My Yoko Ono.” Aha! Another acoustic band! Does this mean the bandwagon is rolling by one more time? No! Barenaked Ladies stand apart from most other acoustic outfits by refusing to wallow in the music of the past. Who needs to redo the sixties when they were done so well the first time? Instead, Barenaked Ladies are forging ahead to make the music of the ‘90s. Barenaked Ladies, contrary to what their name might suggest, are actually five young men who are making some really cool acoustic music. Initially the duo of Steven Page on singing and guitar and Ed Robertson on guitar, singing and banjo, the Ladies have been joined by brothers Jim Creeggan on double bass and Andy Creeggan on congas. The newest addition to the ranks is drummer Tyler Stewart. Together they play a uniquely jumpy acoustic groove they sometimes refer to as “Acoustic Hip Hop”. Barenaked Ladies have upset the independent “apple cart” in Canada, where their self-titled independent release has sold over 50,000 units, propelling them into the Top 20 albums on Canada’s national retail charts; The first time an indie band has cracked the Top 100, never mind the Top 20. The band’s critical acclaim resulted in sold-out shows at 1,200 seat theatres across the country, and prompted heavy radio play for the track Be My Yoko Ono (An interesting aside, Yoko Ono heard the band’s song while they were in New Tork and “enjoys” the song!!) Now, you too can “jump” to the acoustic hip-hop rhythm with the release of this promo-only cd single of Be My Yoko Ono. |

Govatsos Shuffle pro-CD-9132-R Reprise Records (US) 1.Govatsos Shuffle 1:48 Notes: Promo only single. Andrew Govatsos is a Reprise Rep. The track is a rap done live at the 8-26-97 show in Boston. The CD was made primarily as a joke, for distrubution in the New England market, the territory that Govatsos handles. Supposedly 500 of these discs were pressed, but that number seems too high. The covers were done on a HP Laser Jet, and the front cover is a picture of Govatsos, along with the text "We're Off To A Great Start", and the title, "Govatsos Shuffle". “Barenaked Ladies” |
